I'm writing for the France Guild Wars staff.
Just few words to inform you that we have translated all skills in french, and locations too.
Class descriptions and attribute descriptions are also also done, but not used for the moment.

Heya!

Iam Komond from Germany and I did the german translation.
I finished the skill Description long time ago and with the new Translation Manager its quite easy to do the rest.

I need help for the npcs, Locations and Places, because I dont pve at all and I dont want to translate all this, because I just dont need it

So if someone wants to do this, please contact me or Zyo.

GWFreaks offer a first of a kind, a translated tool by and for the Guild Wars community.

Anyone will be free to translate, distribute and get credit for it's hard works, because it is not only an evening job.

How language pack works?

A language pack is everything that can be translated, from the skills description, to the application menu to images that contains text. Everything is put into a folder and the user can choose to use that language pack from the application.

A language pack will be associated with someone (it can be affiliated with a Guild or a Fan site) and that person will be able to update it as the game evolve.

How to create a language pack?

Download the package, fill out all information and send us back your package via the forum.

The "translator" tool is a separated download that must be copied in the same folder as GWFreaks.exe because they sharing a lots of ressource.

There is required information so that the package is "valid", those information are well explained in the translator application.

You can also provide a logo as credit:

A logo that fit into 255 * 20 pixel. The background must be #3A3A3A (RGB 58,58,58) and the image must be name btn_website.jpg. The logo will be display on the top right of the application and a link will be added to your web page if supplied.

It is also well recommended to start a thread with Language as title inside this topic to informed the community, that would be bad to have 2 person doing the same translation...

You should also run only 1 application at the time (GWFreaks OR the Translation manager utility), because both shared the same XML, config file and resource files).

Do I need to translate everything?

No, the tool is always shipped with the English version, if you forget or omit to translate something, the value will be in English. So you could only translate the skills and don't translate the equipment.

If the value is the same as English, the value will not be saved... since the English value is the fallback.

How to translate the images?

The translation utility is shipped with series of Photoshop files that are the master for those images, usually you can just update the text and add them into your language pack.

Image must have the same name and put into the image folder located inside your language pack.

Most of the image can have different width than the English one.

Can 2 person translate the same language?

Yes, even if this is unlikely, 2 persons can decide to submit the same language, there is no exclusivity over a language.

We do not grant exclusivity because someone could for example translate the tool in German and stop playing and just don't want to update it anymore. Then that would block the German language to chapter one forever...

To prevent this, multiple people can submit the same language. We will NOT accept 2 versions identical or only with minor update (copy/paste another and change few description or spelling error is not considered as a valid language pack) The only reason we will accept the same language is if we feel that the original sender have stopped or don't want to update the language pack and important section are not translated.

If you only translate part of the language pack, the owner can be fair and include your name in the Authors list.

Hi, im kronik, one of the Spanish translators of GwFreaks.

We had already translated all the skills and now we are working with the tool to translate the rest of the program, but we are having problems with the save function. We cannot store our work because when i press Save, the program does nothing. We first press "Add a new language pack", then translate the words and then press "Save" but it doesn´t work for us. If anyone have some ideas they will be good received.

Today I started the translation of GWFreaks to portuguese, brazillian version from the Spanish version.

As GW doesnt have a portuguese version, Ill keep some words in English, like Skills Names, Characters States, Conditions, Characters Classes and so on =P

Here is the list of files done so far:

Dutch - Nederlands

Just started on a Dutch translation (haven't found one yet so thats why )

Find the program really usefull (I manage all my builds in it for fast reference) and whilst playing PvE I can quickly lookup where that needed skill is located.

Maybe this way other Dutch players will find it more useful.

So far I have the entire Main, Class and Equip Property tabs translated.
Working now on Attribute and Player State.

Skills I will do when I got lots of spare time (because there are alot of them )

Swedish - Svenska

I am planning to translate GWFreaks into Swedish. But not the skills and places, since all Swedish players see those in English in the game and I think it would be more confusing than usefull. However, i posted a thread on the Swedish Fansite and if everyone have a different opion than I have, I will of course translate that as well.

It would be alot easier to translate the images if you could supply the PSD-files.

Translated this far is:
All classes
All attributes
All menu items and labels that can currently be translated.
All images

Not supported language by Guild Wars... what can we do?

The question has been ask Fredrik in Swedish, I put into a separated thread because it will impact a lots of user.

It's interesting to see what can and cannot be translated into something not supported in the game.

As for the interface, most of the term can be translated easy. Tricky part comme with in game stuff.

Translating the Skill

For example our Polish friend Draghmar was the first to translate the GWFreaks skill back in early July 2005. After full translation we both realized that for the user this is not the best since they can't match the text with the game.

But I think that, with some reserved, the Skill Description (not the skill Title) could be in some way translated.

I'm French so I will make my example is French, all important Guild Wars specific words remain in English. With the Maligor Patch 2.1.3 they will have capital letter like they do in the game.

Contemplation of Purity
Lose all Enchantments. For each one lost, you gain 6..65 Health, lose one Hex and lose one Condition.

could be translated to.

Contemplation of Purity
Perd tous ses Enchantments. Pour chaque point perdu, vous gagnez 6..65 Health, vous perdez un Hex et une Condition.

Translating the Place

I would vote a big no on this, it's pointless and will create huge confusion... let them in English.

Translating the Class, Attribute

I would translate only the description to explain what they doing... Monk stay a Monk, but can tell what a Monk is in your language.

Is that making sense or I'm way out for non supported language translation?
