How difficult would it be to add additional overlay "layers"? Are their any memory limits or issues?

I was thinking about using layers for: Text & Notes (effectively the same thing, except notes are user created), Borders & Markers (zone borders and outpost/town/mission symbols), and Paths (hard to explain: series of colored areas showing the walkable areas of each zone, accounts for height in the way coloring is used [needed for zones like Maguuma]).

I ask because personally I find the maps for Tyria and Cantha a bit annoying. I want to removed some of the extra stuff and just see the terrain. I know GWFreaks is using a 200 pixel square jpg image array for Tyria; replacing these map sections is easy enough. But it will remove some of the extra info without overlays. Despite this, I'm already partially done with a Tyrian map (except I only have 77.5% of the Prophecies map completed/revealed). Obviously replacing the map (despite keeping the size / aspect ration the same) allows for location errors to occur as jpg capture and user-patching differences accrue. So the map will be accurate within, say, +/- 3 to 5 pixels. Probably small enough not to notice in most instances.

Obviously replacing the base map is easily accomplished. But the overlays are a programming thing - I cannot code. Psuedo-code to explain myself to programmers, no problem, But I never could get around pointers in C++ and know nothing of XML.

Just wondering what is involved, can it be done relatively easy, etc. Thoughts?
Wrong Skill Icons

The icons of some skills are wrong:

Assassin:

-Signet of Malice (Correct icon: )

-Signet if Twilight (Correct icon: )

-Lift Enchantment (icon is OK except for the fact that it's not a hex)

That is all i found for now. Is there a way of having it separate?
This would allow sorting by adrenaline cost, which I'm fairly sure can't be done at the moment. There doesn't seem to be a way to search for adrenaline only skills either - keyword searches only look for skill description as apposed to costs

Just another idea to make life more difficult
Just to note, "Fear Me!" has a recharge and an adrenaline cost (The only one, I know) So only shows the full info when selected on the Skill Info Window, the main skill listings doesn't show it.

Fast Casting

Just a minor tweak really.

The modified Fast Casting times are currently shown with the original spell speed shown in brackets. I've noticed quite a few people have had problems with the weapons/armor section and I know it would be impossible to ever have it 100% updated. However I feel it would help to have the system updated to include insignia, rune, and prefix/suffix; even if it is incomplete and the individual could input the names and data themselves. I came to this conclusion when i was trying to fabricate a "Stonefist Kurzik Helm of Hammer Mastery" when I found there was no lengthen knockdown mod other than the premade stoneskin gauntlets. As well as trying to make a "Lieutenant's Kurzik Gauntlets of Superior Strength" but there again wasn't a reduced hex xx% duration and reduced damage x% to make them them, not even a lieutenant's helm.
I don't know much if anything about programming but back when i was playing D2 and played around with Hero Editor testing out my ideal set ups for different characters; I came across this site(http://scifantasy.com/diablo2/items.php) that had saved files of individual armor and weapons that you could download and use and modify. Saving lots of time making them from scratch. Well I guess what I'm getting at is if there was a way we could implement a similar idea individuals could share their weapons and armor, especially when it comes to "greens" which always have the same mods.

Again I'm not claiming to be some kind of expert I just wish to put forth an idea to be heard and considered as a possible update for the future. maybe?

Updated Skills.xml & SkillsDesc.xml files as promised

Hi Zyo (and everyone else)
Please find attached the two updated files:

Skills.xml & SkillsDesc.xml

I haven't bothered amending minor textual inaccuracies, unless they are wrong or misleading about how the skill works itself. The only skills I am not 100% sure about are the Soul Reaping skills, as GW don't have these listed on their skills lists for some reason! (I have contacted their webmaster to point this mistake out as well as some missing skill names for Paragon Command skills...which I knew what they were anyway luckily.) This shouldn't be an issue as there are only about 5-6 skills and I have cross-referenced them with the skills in-game and all looks OK to me.

I have also included a .txt which lists all the amendments I have made to the two .xml files for easy reference.

Hope this helps you out with the next release!

Keep up the good work!

Glith
P.s. Theres a few things tho I think that would make it significantly more powerful.

First off, a small disclaimer, I have barely started playing gw (I do however have all three games but only have a level 16 elementalist/mesmer at the Lion's Gate - not very far from what Ive been reading). Secondly, I think Ive done a decent look thru of what this program has but may have missed some things.

Lets start with a list of unlockables...

A complete list of unlockables would be nice to have. This would include all weapon and armor upgrades, inscriptions, and runes. Ideally, a tab would be added labeled something like unlockables. Clicking on this will display a form laid out exactly as the priest of Balthazaar screen is laid out. From there, I can go thru the skills and item upgrades, compare to the game, and mark those that are unlocked as such. And yes, skills would be listed there too...again, ideally, I want to quickly compare to the game and mark everything.

While Im aware runes are already included, they are organized quite oddly. Id like to have everything organized just how it is in the game so that I can quickly go thru and mark what Ive unlocked without having to decipher some of the rune descriptions and so I can look at what I havent unlocked (*cry*).

That having been said, the other thing that would make this much more useable is filtering for the maps.

When Im viewing a map, it would be awesome if I had various filters of different things that I could choose to display on the maps. Often times, I go to refer to a map to see if there is any key points of interest and saddly, nothing is there. For example, collectors would be nice (with a list of what they sell in the form of a tooltip when you hover the mouse over the icon on the map). Hows about the ability to see locations for all skills in the area (elite skills colored differently). Or spawn points for treasure chests and green items. Boss locations...

And of course, Id love to have all this in the form of a filter so I can chose what I see and dont see. In particular, skills, Id like to have the program show me all skills marked on the map if I havent already unlocked that skill.

And lastly, instead of the huge 1200 item list on the left, 4 dropdown boxes at the top of the map screen would be less cumbersome. The left dropdown would have 3 selections - one for each games maps (Prophecies - Tyria, Factions, and Nightfall). The next dropdown would contain the query/filter based on the first selection you made (selecting prophecies would make the second dropdown box show maps for that continent). The third dropdown would contain a list of the 10 classes and an 11th option to select multiple classes (maybe called custom?). When this option is selected, a window opens with the option to 'tick' multiple classes. The fourth, a list of the skills pertaining to the class(es) selected in the third dropdown.

I cant save the characters

hi, i installed and reinstalled you program but when i make a character i click in "save" but the program don t create the xml file and when i restart it, it say: Character C:\Program Files\GWFreaks\Templates\Characters\"character name".xml is missing
Thanks for your time

Changing the Explorable Area icon

I don't know about anyone else, but I have noticed that the icon currently being used in GWFreaks to represent an explorable area (aka, a zone) looks horrible. It is totally flat and boring in comparison to the other icons used. Nor does it match (yes, I know it is meant to represent a zone border as seen in the Moon... err, maps. Sorry I've forgotten the exact name.) My point is it is just out of place.
So I have created a new one.

It seemed to me that the "swirl" used to represent zone gates on the map is more appropriate. I could not find a swirl that wasn't so pixelated that I could lift it out of the map directly. Instead I reproduced the effect in a graphics program. I made the symbol a tad brighter than normal so held its own among the other map symbol icons. I matched the GWFreaks background making its use appear seamless. Installing it is just a matter of replacing the original file with this new one.

In case anyone else might be interested in using it, let me know and I'll see about posting it. (I don't have access to the swirl file at present.)

Weapons need update

I was trying to create a build for my sin, and i didn't see the daggers with the mods i intended on using, since you only have the green factions daggers. Having to type a common filter such as this example makes it a good candidate for its own checkbox.
It appears the skills are already tagged with Campaign data (Core, Prophecies , Factions or Nightfall) so it would seem natural that you would be able to search by Campaign. This would be very useful for anyone who did not own all three Campaigns was limited in the ability to have a specific character get a skill from a specific Campaign based on the characters current progress.

Export feature

If i select team, no skill description and bbCode there is no linebreak between the characters in the build.

The name of the character comes directly after the last skill.
Display issue when minimise guild wars

First, I just like to say what an excellent program GW Freaks is.

This issue occurrences if you have guild wars and gwfreaks running at the same time, then GW is minimized.
My system is running a nvidia 6600GT

Suggestion: New Profession - "None"

I would suggest the addition of a new profession: "None".

Alright I admit it. I'm a solo-ing role-playing PvE gamer. There, I've said it. I realize that GWFreaks is geared more toward the PvP player. Despite that I think this could be of use.

Options on one tab effect the stuff seen on another. So my brand new Assassin/Nothing is an Assassin/Monk because that is how GWFreaks currently has him listed. Their is no way to show a single profession - which admittedly is impossible in the game. But this can be helpful as a means of limiting the info shown. I mean, all of those Monk skills being shown for my Assassin are useless. Yes, I realize that I can simply deselect all of the categories or use "Show Unlocked only" but it still lists my "A/-" as an "A/Mo"; which he isn't.
Additional Character Slots for Account

Currently each Account is limited to only being able to open 4 characters. Anyone with all three campaigns has at least 8 character slots, not including any bonus slots or additionally purchased slots.

My suggestion is to edit the GUI to allow for any number of character to be opened. Adding a "window" which contains the current 4 character positions with a scroll bar would be one possible solution. Another variation would be to stack the characters across if there is sufficient space, based on the screen and current GUI size, along with the scroll bar thereby getting more use from the interface.

ALL NEW SKILLS XML FILES!!

Hi all
Please find attached all the latest skill updates from the recent round of balance changes.

I have also included a .xls (MS Excel) file that highlights all the amendments made.

Have also made SoldiersStance an elite.

Regards

Glith

P.s. (On a related note, default team templates are created just by switching from Account to Team mode even if there are no characters entered or the team name is not set. The behavior should be changed to only save the template if a character is added to the Team or the team name is set. Basically an empty "My Team1.xml" file should not be created.)

As I do not use these templates I remove them after each install. The templates I make have a naming convention and it helps keeping the directory clean so that when I open an existing template in GWFreaks I do not have to navigate through files that are not mine. If you added this option then the templates would be there for those who use them and not added for those who do not use them.

In addition regardless of the default for this new setting (either selected or non-selected) the installer should be able to recognize the state of the last selection when doing an upgrade. I do not mind un-selecting a choice on the first install, but later updates should see me previous choice and offer that as the new default. I know that GWFreaks does currently not save these information between installs for updates (at least for all choices).

Skills.xml and SkillsDesc.xml File Suggestions

Is there a reason the skills.xml and SkillsDesc.xml files are split? I would think it would simplify updates and version control to merge them into a single skill description. It would also be helpful for those who want to contribute to publish a description of the scheme including any attribute size or character limits and naming conventions for creating new items.
While most of the attributes are easy enough to figure out the one that still confounds me is the Id attribute in the skills.xml file. Where or how is this derived?

Also the Lightbringer and Sunspear skills are not listed and both GWFreaks and the admin programs do not seem to be able handle their unique attributes and leveling. This would seem like there is a need to expand the schema and interface to add the Lightbringer and Sunspear levels to the application. I suspect there will be continued additions in future chapters that work along this same line. There are already other titles that do not equate to skills that change game behavior (Wisdom for example) that might be worth adding. One suggestion would be to add titles.xml file that allowed for tracking and editing titles and have that linked back to any skills that were variable based on a title level.

Insidious Parasite Error

Insidious Parasite duration counter should be 5..15 and not 8..20.

Regards

Glith

P.s.
