| | After playing around a bit with GWFreaks and looking around the forums. I've noticed quite a few people have had problems with the weapons/armor section and I know it would be impossible to ever have it 100% updated. However I feel it would help to have the system updated to include insignia, rune, and prefix/suffix; even if it is incomplete and the individual could input the names and data themselves. I came to this conclusion when i was trying to fabricate a "Stonefist Kurzik Helm of Hammer Mastery" when I found there was no lengthen knockdown mod other than the premade stoneskin gauntlets. As well as trying to make a "Lieutenant's Kurzik Gauntlets of Superior Strength" but there again wasn't a reduced hex xx% duration and reduced damage x% to make them them, not even a lieutenant's helm. I don't know much if anything about programming but back when i was playing D2 and played around with Hero Editor testing out my ideal set ups for different characters; I came across this site(http://scifantasy.com/diablo2/items.php) that had saved files of individual armor and weapons that you could download and use and modify. Saving lots of time making them from scratch. Well I guess what I'm getting at is if there was a way we could implement a similar idea individuals could share their weapons and armor, especially when it comes to "greens" which always have the same mods. Again I'm not claiming to be some kind of expert I just wish to put forth an idea to be heard and considered as a possible update for the future. maybe? |

| Ok, I know this is an old topic and technically a "dead" one at that, but...
After reading and re-reading Vlad_3rd_Tsepesh's original post, we might be over-thinking the item database. Specifically what I mean by this is as follows:
1) Create a single base item with all non-variable info. This would be mostly white and green items, effectively. (I think)
2) Update the program to include all of the variables: insignias, runes, tattoos, inscriptions, weapon mods, etc.
3) Limit error checking to a minimum - armor mods not on weapons, etc. no per item checks (ie, don't check if variable/mod belongs on a sword, axe, shield, ankh, etc). Obviously more error checking would be nice, but my design goal here is minimal software changes since GW2 is only 9+ months away (at absolute best).
And GWFreaks is done - at least technically. Now it is just a matter of telling users to "roll their own" items. Once all of the pieces are included each user could create the specific item they need. GWFreaks does not provide a "paper doll" to dress up/show items equipped on the character so very few new graphics are needed. Just the base item names and non-variable stats. All of the variables are added by users on an "as needed" basis.
While it is a bit of a cop out, this does allow GWFreaks to have every item in the game. Because technically they're in the software - in bits and pieces - but they're in there.

| I was thinking about this again and started entering a few items to try the idea out. It's possible but not practical.
Here are some of the issues that came to mind:
* Include "PvE" in the name?
* Where do I place it in the name? PvE Brute Sword or Brute Sword PvE?
* Will including it cause database search issues?
* Some weapon names do not make clear their weapon type, should I include that in the name? PvE Flamberge (Sword)?
* Will including the weapon type cause database search issues?
* Database has no copy function - my base items cannot be used as templates.
* Editing / correcting an item's record in the database is harder than creating a new item.
* Used as templates, my base items might require more computer memory than is acceptable to a user.
* Templates plus new items based on them, compound the potential memory problem.
So, all things said and done, it seems to me this idea is dead. If anyone has any other comments or suggestions on this, feel free. Maybe I'm missing something.
